AI Acceleration Quotient (AAQ)
OODA’s AI Acceleration Quotient (AAQ) delivers a repeatable evaluation of an organization’s readiness to adopt AI solutions for business impact. The AAQ produces a composite score from 0 to 100 across three dimensions of AI capability: machine learning maturity, generative AI adoption, and agentic AI readiness. The result is a clear, comparable picture of where an organization stands today and where its gaps are.
Why it matters
AI is moving fast. Companies that embedded machine learning into operations five years ago now face a second wave of disruption from generative AI and a third from autonomous agentic systems. Each wave demands different infrastructure, talent, and governance. Leaders making investment, acquisition, or partnership decisions need a way to cut through vendor claims and self-reported maturity levels and see what’s actually in place.
The AAQ was built for that. It gives investors, board members, and executives a structured basis for comparing AI capabilities across companies, industries, and time periods — using the same framework every time.
What it measures
The AAQ scores organizations on three weighted dimensions:
Machine learning maturity. Is the company running production ML models that influence real business decisions? Or is it still in pilot mode? This dimension looks at deployed models, data infrastructure, MLOps practices, and measurable business outcomes from ML investments.
Generative AI adoption. Has the company moved beyond experimenting with chatbots? This dimension evaluates how deeply generative AI is integrated into workflows, whether the company is building on foundation models or just consuming APIs, and how it handles the governance and risk challenges that come with generative systems.
Agentic AI readiness. This is the frontier. Can the company’s architecture support autonomous AI agents that take actions, not just make recommendations? This dimension assesses technical infrastructure, organizational willingness to delegate decisions to AI, and the safety and oversight frameworks needed to do that responsibly.
Each dimension is scored using a structured rubric. The three scores are combined into a single composite AAQ score using standard or industry-adjusted weights.
How we use it
The AAQ supports several types of engagements across OODA’s practice areas:
Competitive intelligence. Score and rank a set of companies within an industry to understand who is ahead on AI adoption and where. Useful for corporate strategy teams, board-level briefings, and market analysis.
Investment and M&A due diligence. Evaluate a target company’s AI capabilities as part of a broader technical due diligence assessment. The AAQ provides a structured complement to OODA’s existing due diligence services, adding a specific lens on AI maturity alongside cybersecurity and technology risk.
Internal benchmarking. Score your own organization and compare the result against competitors or industry baselines. Identify specific capability gaps across the three dimensions and prioritize investment accordingly.
Portfolio monitoring. For private equity firms and corporate venture arms, apply the AAQ across a portfolio to track AI maturity over time and flag companies that are falling behind or pulling ahead.
How it works
The AAQ is a research-driven assessment. OODA analysts gather evidence from public sources — earnings calls, technical blog posts, job postings, patent filings, partnership announcements, trade media, and analyst reports — and score each company against the rubric. Every score above a baseline threshold requires at least one named source. When evidence is limited (as it often is with private companies), we say so.
For deeper engagements, the AAQ can be augmented with proprietary data, management interviews, and technical inspections to produce a more complete picture. The methodology stays the same; the evidence base gets richer.
All AAQ assessments include a clear disclaimer: scores based on public information alone do not represent a complete picture of any company’s AI capabilities. The AAQ is a framework for starting the conversation, not a substitute for thorough due diligence.
What you get
Depending on the engagement, OODA delivers AAQ results as:
- A detailed briefing with per-company scores, dimension breakdowns, evidence citations, and competitive positioning analysis
- A presentation-ready slide deck with ranked visualizations and one-line justifications for each score
- A full written report with methodology, per-company profiles, comparison tables, and recommendations
All outputs include OODA’s analysis and interpretation, not just the numbers. A score without context is a number without meaning.
Where the AAQ fits in OODA’s services
The AAQ is part of OODA’s broader Advisory and Consulting practice. It sits alongside our EVALU8 risk assessment framework and TURING integrity assessment as a structured methodology for evaluating specific dimensions of an organization’s technology posture. Where EVALU8 focuses on enterprise risk and TURING focuses on AI security and integrity, the AAQ focuses on AI capability and competitive positioning.
For clients engaged in M&A or investment activity, the AAQ integrates directly with our technical, cybersecurity, and business due diligence services.
